Playwright Michael Hastings Has Died

Playwright Michael Hastings has died following a battle with cancer, according to a report in The New York Times. He was 73.


Among his many plays are Don’t Destroy, Yes, and After, The Silence of Lee Harvey Oswald, For the West (Uganda), Gloo Joo, and Calico, as well as Tom and Viv, which premiered at the Public Theater after its debut in London and was subsequently turned into a film staring Willem Dafoe and Miranda Richardson.

In addition, he wrote biographical studies of Rupert Brooke and Richard Burton and adapted Henry James’ The American for a television movie and wrote the screenplay for the film The Nightcomers.

He is survived by his wife, Victoria Hardie, and three children.
