NBC Today announced this morning that two-time Olympic silver medalist and three-time world-champion figure skater Elvis Stojko will join the Broadway cast of Chicago the Musical as the smooth-talking, razzle-dazzle attorney Billy Flynn, the athlete's Broadway stage debut. Stojko will take over the role for just eight performances from March 17-March 23, 2014, at the Ambassador Theatre. Following his brief Broadway run, he will join the production's North American touring company for its engagement in his hometown of Toronto from March 26-30 at the Prince of Wales Theatre.

"People think of me as only a skater. What they don't know is that I love musicals," Stojko said in a statement. "Now I finally have the chance to play a great role in one of the greatest musicals of all time. I'm very excited."

Stojko has made several television and film appearances in the past, including a guest-starring spot on the Canadian television program Chilly Beach, a guest role on a 2006 episode of The Simpsons entitled "Kill Gil: Vols. 1 & 2," and a role performing the ice-skating sequences in the 2002 film Death to Smoochy, starring Robin Williams.

Stojko will join a Broadway cast that currently features Bianca Marroquin as Roxie Hart, Amra-Faye Wright as Velma Kelly, Ryan Silverman as Billy Flynn, Paul C. Vogt as Amos Hart, and Roz Ryan as Matron "Mama" Morton.
