The Off-Broadway production of Striking 12, a musical performed by the three-member pop-rock band Groovelily, will run November 6-December 31 at the Daryl Roth Theatre. The production, to be directed by Tony Award winner Ted Sperling, will open officially on November 12.

The show features a book by two members of the group, Brendan Milburn and Valerie Vigoda, and Rachel Sheinkin, who received the 2005 Tony Award for the book of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. It tells the story of Grumpy Guy, who decides to avoid the hectic, loveless world on New Year’s Eve until he’s visited by a salesgirl who promises to chase away his doldrums. The piece has previously been seen at Ars Nova in New York, Theatreworks in Palo Alto, California, the Prince Music Theatre in Philadelphia, and the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego. An original cast recording is available on PS Classics.

The show’s creative team includes David Korins (set), Tobin Ost (costumes), Michael Gilliam (lighting), and Rob Killenberger (sound). Sperling won the Tony Award as co-orchestrator for The Light in the Piazza. His directing work includes the Public Theater’s production of See What I Wanna See and the Prince Music Theatre production of Lady in the Dark. In addition, he has served as musical director for Audra McDonald.
