Shirley Jones, Howard Keel, John Raitt, Kristin Chenoweth, and Audra McDonald are among the star performers in a TV telecast of highlights of the Richard Rodgers centennial gala at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. The concert took place in April 2002 and the telecast is scheduled for this coming Wednesday, October 16, from 8 to 9pm on PBS as part of the series On Stage at the Kennedy Center.
The gala features the National Symphony Orchestra and The Washington Chorus under Leonard Slatkin. Also performing are Rita Moreno, Sylvia McNair, Samuel Ramey, and violinist Joshua Bell. The program showcases Rodgers' work with his two most famous lyricist partners, Lorenz Hart and Oscar Hammerstein II, as well as his solo work.
