The Casting Society of America has named producer Thomas Schumacher, President of Disney Theatrical Group, as the recipient of the "New York Apple Award" to be presented at the 2008 Artios Awards for outstanding achievement in casting, at coast-to-coast ceremonies on Monday, November 10, with the New York event taking place at Caroline's on Broadway.

Nominations in 19 categories encompassing film, television, and theater were also announced. Broadway Theater Casting - Drama nominees include Jim Carnahan, Les Liaisons Dangereuses; David Caparelliotis, Mauritius, Tara Rubin/Laura Schutzel, Eric Woodall/Merri Sugarman The Country Girl; Bernard Telsey, The Homecoming; and , Nancy Piccone, Top Girls. Broadway Theater Casting - Comedy nominations were given to Jim Carnahan, Boeing-Boeing; Jay Binder/Jack Bowdan, Is He Dead?; Bernard Telsey/William Cantler, November; Jim Carnahan, Pygmalion, and Jay Binder/Jack Bowdan, The 39 Steps. Broadway Theater Casting -Musical nominees include Bernard Telsey/Bethany Knox for both A Catered Affair and In The Heights; Jay Binder, Gypsy; Tara Rubin/Eric Woodall, Merri Sugarman/Laura Schutzel, Mel Brooks' Young Frankenstein; Bernard Telsey, South Pacific; and Cindy Tolan, Xanadu.

Off-Broadway Casting -Comedy/Drama/Musical nominees include Tara Rubin/Laura Schutzel, Eric Woodall/Merri Sugarman, Crimes of the Heart; Alain Alldaffer, Dead Man's Cell Phone; David Caparelliotis, From Up Here; James Calleri, The Seagull; and Judy Henderson, Things We Want. Regional Theater Casting (L.O.R.T.) nominations were given to Will Cantler/Bernard Telsey, 33 Variations; Jay Binder for An American in Paris, Dancing in the Dark aka Bandwagon, and Happy Days, A New Musical; Mele Nagler, Streamers; and Samantha Barrie, The Glass Menagerie. Los Angeles Theater nominees include Michael Donovan, Damn Yankees; Scott David, Hedda Gabler; Patrick Baca, It's Just Sex; Bruce H. Newberg, L'il Abner; Jeff Greenberg, Secrets of the Trade; and Erika Sellin, The History Boys.

Schumacher's Broadway producing credits include The Lion King, Aida, Tarzan, Mary Poppins, and The Little Mermaid. Additional producing credits include On the Record and the tour of Disney's High School Musical. In addition, Craig Zadan & Neil Meron will receive the Career Achievement Award and Mali Finn will receive the Hoyt Boyers Award.
