Alda, Behar, Imperioli, Keillor, et al. to Appear at Barnes & Noble

Alan Alda, Joy Behar, Garrison Keillor, and Michael Imperioli are among the artists appearing at free events in September at Barnes & Noble stores in New York City

The chain’s Union Square store (33 East 17th Street) will host Alda, reading from his new book Things I Overheard While Talking to Myself at 7pm on Wednesday, September 5. On Monday, September 10 at 7pm, Imperioli will talk with author Paul Auster and Siri Hustvedt about The Inner Life of Morton Frost. Keillor will make an appearance at 7pm on Tuesday, September 18 to promote Pontoon: A Lake Wobegon Novel. Joy Behar, co-host of The View will be there on Wednesday, September 26 at 7pm for a reading of her new book When You Need a Lift.

As previously reported, Michael Palin, an original member of the Monty Python troupe, will be on hand at 7pm at Barnes & Noble Lincoln Triangle (Broadway and 66th Street) on Tuesday, September 4 for a reading of his new book Diaries 1969-1979: The Python Years. On Monday, September 10 at 7pm, that store will host a discussion and performance of the New York City Opera production of Margaret Garner. The Jewish People’s Philharmonic Chorus will perform at 3pm on Sunday, September 16; playwright Theresa Rebeck will visit at 5:30pm on Tuesday, September 25 along with cast members from the Manhattan Theatre Club production of her new work, Mauritius; and singer Diana Krall will autograph copies of her CD, The Very Best of Diana Krall at 1pm on Saturday, September 29.

Two NYMF-related events will be held at the Lincoln Triangle store. On Thursday, September 20 at 5:30pm, TheaterMania contributor Peter Filichia will moderate a panel discussion Partnering With a Librettist featuring Gary Adler, Kevin del Aguila, Michael Patrick Walker, Charlie Gilbert, and Albert Innauarato; and at 5:30pm on Thursday, September 27, Kris Stewart moderates a discussion with Goodman and fellow musical theater writers Joe Iconis, Joel Adlen, and Cara Reichel. Finally, the store’s popular Any Wednesday series, held each Wednesday at 6pm, will host singers Milla Ilieva (September 5), Jack Donohue (September 19), and Leslie Orofino (September 26).

Other celebrities appearing in the company’s stores this month include actors Robby Benson, Joey Lawrence, Danica McKellar, and Courtney Thorne-Smith.
