Public Theater to Host Talk on Joseph Papp and His Legacy

Helen Epstein, the author of Joe Papp: An American Life, will give a free talk titled Joseph Papp and his Legacy at 7pm on Monday, September 26 in the Newman Theater at The Public Theater (425 Lafayette Street). A Q&A session and a book signing will follow.

Papp was the founder of the Public Theater, which is currently celebrating its 50th anniversary. He died of cancer in 1991 at the age of 70. His legacy is being celebrated in numerous ways this year, including the exhibition A Community of Artists: 50 Years of the Public Theater at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts, on view now through October 15.

Epstein is the author of five books, among them the memoirs Children of the Holocaust and Where She Came From: A Daughter’s Search for Her Mother’s History. Reservations for the September 26 talk are recommended; please call 212-260-4200.
