Joey Taranto to Replace Constantine Maroulis in Broadway’s Rock of Ages

Newcomer Joey Taranto will take over the lead role of Drew in the Broadway musical Rock of Ages, beginning September 10. He replaces Tony nominee Constantine Maroulis, who will play his final performance in the Broadway run on September 9, prior to embarking the musical’s first national tour, which debuts in Chicago on September 21.

In addition, Mitchell Jarvis, currently portraying the role of Lonny, will play his final performance in that role on September 5, and take on the role of Stacee Jaxx on September 13. James Carpinello, who is currently playing Stacee Jaxx, will play his final performance on a date still to be determined. Meanwhile, Jay Klaitz will take over as Lonny beginning September 6.

The musical focuses on a young rocker hungry for his big break and a small town girl who meet in 1987 at a legendary Hollywood club facing its imminent demise. The score includes the hit songs of iconic rockers Journey, Styx, REO Speedwagon, Foreigner, Pat Benatar, Whitesnake, and many more. The musical’s book is written by Chris D’Arenzio. Kristin Hanggi has directed the production, which features choreography by Kelly Devine.

Taranto made his Broadway debut in Rock of Ages as a vacation swing and, has previously covered the role of Drew. His regional credits include Rent and The Who’s Tommy.

In addition to Maroulis, Carpinello, and Jarvis, the cast currently features Emily Padgett, Adam Dannheisser, Michele Mais, Josephine Rose Roberts, Paul Schoeffler, Derek St. Pierre, Jenifer Foote, Ericka Hunter, Michael Minarik, Julie Nelson, Justin Matthew Sargent, Matthew Stocke, Sarrah Strimel, Andre Ward, Katie Webber, and Jeremy Woodard.
