Playwright Jack Richardson Has Died

Playwright Jack Richardson had died in New York at age 78, according to The New York Times.


Richardson’s plays included Lorenzo and Xmas in Las Vegas, both of which had short Broadway runs, The Prodigal a reimagining of Euripides’ drama Orestes, which won Obie and Drama Desk Awards, and Gallows Humor.


He also wrote numerous magazine articles and books, including Memoir of a Gambler, and was the drama critic for Commentary.


He is survived by his second wife, Susan Morse, his daughter, Emily Carter, and his son Dwight.
