Tovah Feldshuh, recently seen on Broadway in Irena’s Vow, Michael Cumpsty, who just completed performances in the Public Theater’s Twelfth Night and Mather Zickel, seen in movies such as Rachel Getting Married are all scheduled to take part in 2009 Writers Jam Session. This weeklong series of readings by emerging artists, presented free-of-charge by The Playwrights Realm, will be held at the NYU Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program Center from July 23 – July 30.

Among the plays that will be part of “Jam” are Aurin Squire’s dark comedy Bleed, Cori Thomas’ examination of a custody battle, My Secret Language of Wishes, and an examination of five estranged friends’ reunion, Diagram of a Paper Airplane by Carlos Murillo. The series will also feature a production of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, which will be directed by Jim Calder and performed by an ensemble of just four actors.

Other performers scheduled to take part in “Jam” include: Heidi Armbruster (Tea and Sympathy), Rayme Cornell (host of PBS’s Real Moms, Real Stories, Real Savvy), Natalie Gold (Distracted), Laura Heisler (Coram Boy), Andre Holland (last season’s Joe Turner’s Come and Gone); and Nilaja Sun (author and performer of the critically acclaimed No Child…).
