Dukakis, Cox, and Irving to Headline A Mother, A Daughter, and a Gun

Olympia Dukakis, Veanne Cox, and George S. Irving will star in Barra Grant’s new dark comedy A Mother, A Daughter, and a Gun at the Helen Hayes Theatre in Nyack, New York from September 23 through October 9. The production will then begin preview performances of an open-ended Off-Broadway run at Dodger Stages on October 14 in advance of a November 1 opening.

Jonathan Lynn, best known for helming the film My Cousin Vinny, will direct the play. The cast also includes David Bishins, Mario Campanaro, Katrina Ferguson, Matthew Greer, Laura Heisler, Stephanie Kurtzuba, and Daniel Pearce. The production will feature set design by Jesse Poleshuck, costumes by David C. Woolard, lighting by Beverly Emmons, and sound design by T. Richard Fitzgerald and Carl Casella.

Grant, the daughter of former Miss America Bess Myerson, is a writer, director, and actress. She penned the screenplays for the films Slow Dancing in the Big City, Misunderstood, and Life of the Party. Her acting credits include Major Barbara and The Three Sisters.

Dukakis last appeared on Broadway in Rose, for which she won an Outer Critics Circle Award, and Off-Broadway in the Aquila Theater Company production of Agamemmnon; best known for her Oscar-winning performance as Rose Castorini in the film Moonstruck, she has received Obie Awards for her work in A Man’s a Man and The Marriage of Bette and Boo. Cox had a major role in Caroline, or Change and earned a Tony Award nomination for her performance as Amy in the Roundabout revisal of Company. Irving, whose Broadway career spans more than 60 years and includes the original production of Oklahoma!, won a Tony for his performance as Madame Lucy in Irene.
