This production of the classic Mitch Leigh-Joe Darion-Dale Wasserman musical, which features such songs as "Dulcinea" and "The Impossible Dream," was directed by Jonathan Kent. It stars Brian Stokes Mitchell (Kiss Me, Kate, Ragtime) as Miguel de Cervantes, who is imprisoned by the Spanish Inquisition and convinces his fellow prisoners not to destroy the manuscript of his novel Don Quixote by presenting the story for them. The show co-stars Marin Mazzie (Kiss Me, Kate), who recently took over the role of Aldonza from Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, and Ernie Sabella (Chicago) as Sancho. The cast also includes Mark Jacoby, Stephen Bogardus, Don Mayo, Bradley Dean, Natascia Diaz, Olga Merediz, Frederick B. Owens, and Jamie Torcellini.
In their review of the production for TheaterMania, Barbara and Scott Siegel wrote: "This is the kind of theater that can change the course of someone's life. It can instill unshakeable idealism, create a moral compass, or -- if nothing else -- establish a lifelong love affair with musical theater."
