A cocktail party in honor of the recipients of special Tony Awards and the Tony Honors for Excellence in Theatre was held at the Hotel InterContinental New York on Saturday, June 12.
As previously announced, special Tony Awards for Lifetime Achievement are being presented this year to playwright Sir Alan Ayckbourn and actress Marian Seldes. In addition, David Hyde Pierce will receive the Isabelle Stevenson Award for his work in the fight against Alzheimer's disease, and the Eugene O'Neill Theatre Center will receive the Tony Award for Regional Theatre.
This year's Tony Honors for Excellence in the Theatre -- awarded to institutions, individuals and/or organizations not eligible in any of the established Tony Award categories -- will go to The Alliance of Resident Theatres New York (A.R.T./New York); stage combat teacher and director B.H. Barry; Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS' Executive Director Tom Viola, and the Midtown North and Midtown South Precincts.
