The 2011 season of the Glimmerglass Festival (formerly the Glimmerglass Opera) in Cooperstown, New York has been announced.

The season, which will run July 2-August 23, 2011, will feature the world premiere of Jeanine Tesori and Tony Kushner’s A Blizzard in Marblehead Neck, which will be paired with the professional premiere of John Musto and Mark Campbell’s Later the Same Evening, an opera based on the paintings of Edward Hopper.

The season will also include productions of Annie Get Your Gun, Carmen, and the opera Medea by Cherubini, along with additional concerts, cabarets, lectures, and other events.

The season marks the first one for Francesca Zambello, who will officially take over as Glimmerglass’ artistic and general director in September. She is also artistic advisor to the San Francisco Opera, and has directed productions at the Metropolitan Opera, the Royal Opera House, the Paris Opera and other major companies. In addition, she directed the current national tour of The Little House on the Prairie, the Broadway production of The Little Mermaid, and the world premiere of The First Wives Club.
