Lin-Manuel Miranda Receives National Arts Club’s Gold Medal

Lin-Manuel Miranda, the composer-lyricist and co-star of the Broadway musical In the Heights, was honored on June 2 with the National Arts Club’s Gold Medal.

In the Heights, a portrait of the denizens of Manhattan’s Washington Heights neighborhood, played last year at Off-Broadway’s 37 Arts Theater, before moving to the Richard Rodgers Theatre on February 14. The show is nominated for 13 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, with Miranda nominated as Best Actor in a Musical and for Best Score. In 2007, it won the Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Off-Broadway Musical, among other honors.

Guests at the June 2 event included Tony Award winner Sara Ramirez, television host Pat O’Brien, and In the Heights producers Kevin McCollum and Jill Furman.
