Disney’s Tarzan, the musical based on the Disney animated film of the same name, will play its final performance at the Richard Rodgers Theatre on Sunday, July 8 at 6:30pm. It will have played 486 regular performances and 35 preview performances.

The show’s first international production opened in April 2007 at the Circustheatre in The Hague, Netherlands. Additional international productions are in development and will be announced at a later date.

Directed and designed by Bob Crowley, Tarzan features a score by Phil Collins and a book by David Henry Hwang. It stars Josh Strickland as Tarzan, Jenn Gambatese as Jane, Merle Dandridge as Kala, Robert Evan as Kerchak, Chester Gregory II as Terk, Timothy Jerome as Professor Porter and Donnie Keshawarz as Clayton. Alex Rutherford and Dylan Riley Snyder alternate in the role of Young Tarzan.

In his TheaterMania review of the show, David Finkle wrote: “If spectacle alone were enough to make a good musical, as many producers mistakenly believe nowadays, this Cirque du Soleil-influenced entry would be a great one. But spectacle doesn’t, and this isn’t.”
