Footlight Records Store to Close in July

Footlight Records, one of the country’s foremost purveyors of theater-related recordings for more than 30 years, will close its store at 113 East 12th Street in New York City next month and become an Internet-only business. No firm date for the closing is set, but it will be towards the end of July.

According to a statement released by the company, “Because more and more of our customers have started shopping through our Web site, this has signaled to us that a strictly online store will actually give us the potential to provide better service by increasing our selection of hard to find shows and films, expanding our selection of DVD’s, and much more. We will still be taking phone orders, of course, for our customers who are not on the net.”

In addition, the company plans to expand its website, www.footlight.com, to include reviews of new products and a chat-board.
