Heroines was the theme of Playwrights Horizons annual spring gala benefit. The event was a celebration of the company's long history of work with many of today's most celebrated female playwrights. Several of these illustrious women were in attendance including Pulitzer Prize winner Lynn Nottage (Ruined), Pulitzer Prize finalist Gina Gionfriddo (Rapture, Blister, Burn), Tony Award nominee Sarah Ruhl (In the Next Room, Or The Vibrator Play), Lisa D'Amour (Detroit), and many more.

The evening also honored Leslie Marcus who is enjoying her 20th year as managing director of Playwrights Horizons. Marcus joined this roster of renowned female playwrights in celebration of the heroines of New York theater.
