Roger Daltrey, lead singer of The Who, will perform a six-week North American concert tour of The Who’s legendary rock opera Tommy in its entirety from start to finish. The tour will kick off in Hollywood, Florida on September 13.

With music and lyrics by Daltrey’s bandmate, Pete Townshend (and additional music and lyrics by bandmates John Entwistle and Keith Moon), Tommy tells the tale of a young boy who loses his sight, hearing, and speech after witnessing a murder and then embarks on an amazing journey towards a cure and a feeling of self-worth. Its well-known songs include “Pinball Wizard,” “See Me, Feel Me” and “The Acid Queen.”

The concert will utilize striking visuals to accompany the music, and will also include a variety of Who classics and more. Joining Daltrey will be Frank Simes (guitar), Scott Deavours (drums), Jon Button (bass), Loren Gold (keyboards) and also on guitar will be Simon Townshend, younger brother of The Who’s guitarist Pete Townshend.

The rock opera first appeared as a double-LP record album in 1969 and the recording has sold more than 20 million copies worldwide and was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame for “historical, artistic and significant” value. The piece was transformed into a Tony Award-winning Broadway musical in 1993. Daltrey also appeared as the title character in Ken Russell’s 1975 film version, which co-starred Ann-Margret and Oliver Reed.
