Power Players

Shoshana Bean, Tituss Burgess, Ann Hampton Callaway, Barbara Cook, Natalie Douglas, Linda Eder, Michael Feinstein, Malcolm Gets, Cheyenne Jackson, Kecia Lewis-Evans, Marilyn Maye, Mandy Moore, Euan Morton, Judith Owen, John Pizzarelli, Debbie Reynolds, and Curtis Stigers are among the acts playing in New York this month.

Just because it’s June, don’t forget about the city’s vast array of cabarets and clubs, which are continuing to serve up some of the most amazing entertainment to be found on the planet.

Feinstein’s at the Loews Regency presents one of the most interesting pairings in recent memory: club namesake Michael Feinstein and Broadway heartthrob Cheyenne Jackson in an all-new show entitled The Power of Two (June 2-12). And the star power doesn’t stop there: other acts for the month include Norm Lewis (June 1), Ann Hampton Callaway (June 6), Linda Eder (June 13), Barbara Cook (June 18-20), and Jack Noseworthy (June 29).

At the city’s two other major venues, the lights burn bright: The Café Carlyle offers the legendary film and stage star Debbie Reynolds in a rare New York City appearance (June 2-27), while The Oak Room at the Algonquin Hotel is presenting British jazz sensation Claire Martin with peerless Richard Rodney Bennett (May 26-June 6), followed by acclaimed vocalist Curtis Stigers (June 9-20).

The always exciting goings-on at Birdland include appearances by Malcolm Gets with special guests Melissa Errico and John McDaniel (June 1), Stacey Kent (June 2-6), Natalie Douglas (June 8), Regina Carter (June 10-14), Scott Alan with guests including Will Chase, Eden Espinosa, and Tracie Thoms (June 15), the Kurt Elling Quartet (June 16-20), Shoshana Bean (June 22), and John Pizzarelli with guests including his wife, Jessica Molaskey (June 23-27).

The Metropolitan Room serves up a special Tony Award edition of Jamie deRoy & friends (June 2), Yvonne Constant (June 4), Eileen Fulton (June 5-6), Lee Lessack (June 8, 14), Mary Foster Conklin (June 10), Mark Nadler (June 11,18, 25), Euan Morton (June 11-13, 18-20, 25-27), Marilyn Maye (June 12-17, 20-21), Jenna Esposito (June 23, 30), and Marcus Simeone (June 28).

Joe’s Pub‘s something-for-everyone offerings include Billy Eichner (June 1, 8, 12), pop superstar Mandy Moore with Tracy Bonham (June 3), Carmelita Tropicana (June 4), Mike Daisey (June 8), Rebecca Pidgeon (June 11), Judith Owen (June 12), The Music of Lucy Simon (June 14), Lucy Wainwright Roche (June 20), Our Hit Parade (June 24), and Ari Gold (June 28).

The West Bank Cafe’s Laurie Beechman Theatre offers up Ryan Raftery (June 2), Heather Powell (June 5), Ronnie Jayne (June 12-14), Brent Winborn (June 16, 23), Rosemary Loar (June 17), The Disney Diaries (June 21-22, 27-29), Brett Kristofferson (June 26), and Rick Younger (June 28).

Finally, at the Triad, the Just a Piano series will include Broadway stars Kecia Lewis-Evans (June 1, 5), Melba Moore (June 1), and Tituss Burgess (June 29).
