Lopez, Tomei to Join Camp, Harris, Merkerson, Marvel, White, Whitford at 2008 Obie Awards

Priscilla Lopez and Marisa Tomei will join Neil Patrick Harris, S. Epatha Merkerson, Julie White, and Bradley Whitford as presenters at the 53rd Annual Village Voice Obie Awards, to be held at 8pm on Monday, May 19 at Webster Hall. The ceremony, to be hosted by real-life couple Bill Camp and Elizabeth Marvel, will also include a performance from the cast of Passing Strange.

The Obie Awards honor the best of Off-Broadway and Off-Off-Broadway. There are no fixed categories or listed nominations. The Obies also include $10,000 in grant money given to local theater companies, a $1000 prize for Best New American Play, and the $2,000 Ross Wetzsteon Award, given to an institution that fosters the development of new theatrical voices.

This year’s Obie committee includes Voice critics Michael Feingold (chair) and Alexis Soloski, critics Mark Blankenship, Jeremy Gerard, and Helen Shaw, playwright-director Robert O’Hara, and set designer Neil Patel.
