An original cast recording of the Broadway musical Lestat will be made and released by Mercury Records. The show’s cast, headed by Hugh Panaro and 2006 Tony Award nominee Carolee Carmello, will head into the studio on Monday, May 22. Guy Babylon and Matt Still will produce the CD, which is scheduled for release in July.

Lestat has a score by Grammy Award winners Elton John and Bernie Taupin; among its songs are “Right Before My Eyes” and “The Crimson Kiss.” John previously wrote the scores for the Broadway shows Aida and The Lion King, but Lestat marks Taupin’s Broadway debut. The show is based on the novels of Anne Rice and is directed by Robert Jess Roth. It received two Tony nominations: one for Carmello, who plays Gabrielle, and one for Susan Hilferty’s costume design.

The cast of Lestat also includes Drew Sarich, Jim Stanek, Allison Fischer, Roderick Hill, and Michael Genet.
