Ashley Brown and Gavin Lee will star in the Broadway production of the London stage musical Mary Poppins, based on stories by P.L. Travers and the Oscar-winning 1964 Walt Disney film of the same title. The show will begin performances at the New Amsterdam Theatre on Saturday, October 14, and is scheduled to open officially on Thursday, November 16. It is directed by Richard Eyre, with co-direction and choreography by Matthew Bourne and additional choreography by Stephen Mear. Additional casting will be announced at a later date.

Mary Poppins has a book by Julian Fellows. The show uses the original film score by Robert and Richard Sherman, augmented by new songs writen by George Stiles and Anthony Drewe. The creative team for the production includes Bob Crowley (set and costume design), Howard Harrison (lighting design), Andrew Bruce (sound design), William David Brohn (orchestrations), and David Caddick (musical supervision).

Brown, who will play the title role, is currently starring on Broadway as Belle in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast and previously appeared in the national tour of Disney’s On the Record. Lee will be making his Broadway debut as Bert, his role in the show’s London production, for which he received an Olivier Award nomination for Best Actor in a Musical. Mary Poppins is still playing in London at the Prince Edward Theatre, with Laura Michelle Kelly in the title role.
