Drama Book Shop to Host Book Signing Event for Lucille Lortel Biography
Many people know Lortel’s name from the theater and the awards ceremony that bear her name but may be unfamiliar with the details of the woman’s remarkable life, such as the emigration of her family from Eastern Europe to Manhattan’s Lower East Side in the late 19th century and Lortel’s subsequent careers as a performer in theater and vaudeville. Eventually, she turned to producing and was one of the primary movers and shapers of the burgeoning Off-Broadway movement of the 1950s and ’60s.
Admission to the June 15 event is free and open to the public but seating for the talkback is limited. Reservations can be made by phoning 212-944-0595, ext. 417 or by e-mailing info@dramabookshop.com at least 48 hours in advance.
