You Better Sit Down was first performed at Brooklyn's Galapagos Arts Space in November of 2009. The piece was created Anne Kauffman, Matthew Maher, Caitlin Miller, Jennifer R. Morris, Janice Paran and Robbie Sublett, who used interviews with their parents about marriage and divorce as their source material.
For the new version of the piece, people are invited to visit www.wnyc.org/divorcetales and share the stories about their own experiences with divorce, using the medium of their choice: text, video, photography, graphics, and/or song. The site will also offer tips on how to conduct interviews with one's parents to dig deeper into the tender memories and emotions divorce invariably entails. The submissions will then be used to create the new piece which will be performed on June 28.
