Tony Award winner John Kander and playwright Gregory Pierce are collaborating on a trio of one-act musicals that will be developed and eventually produced by the Vineyard Theatre, according to The New York Times.

The pieces are linked by the same theme, about characters confronting what it means to get what they think they want.

A public production of the first piece, “Andra,” will be held through the Vineyard’s developmental lab program in spring 2012.

Kander is well known for his many collaborations with the late Fred Ebb, including Cabaret, Chicago, Kiss of the Spider Woman, The Rink, Curtains, and The Scottsboro Boys. Pierce is the co-author of The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle, which will be presented this summer at the Edinburgh International Festival.
