Drag entertainer Jackie Beat has been strutting her stuff since 1989, but it looks like her hips couldn’t take all that action. Beat needs to have both hip joints replaced, and faces a hospital bill of up to $50,000, with no health insurance. Fortunately, she has some pretty dedicated, talented, and pun-loving friends who created Hip Hip Hooray: A Bone-a-fit for Jackie Beat.

Hip Hip Hooray will take place on March 3 at The Cutting Room. The event will feature Broadway veterans Joan Rivers (Broadway Bound), Debbie Harry (Teaneck Tanzi: The Venus Flytrap), and Parker Posey (Taller Than a Dwarf) as well as Fred Schneider (B-52’s) and downtown performers Lady Bunny, Formika, The Glamazons, Murray Hill, Sherry Vine, and The World Famous Bob, all of whom will join Jackie Beat onstage. There will also be video messages from Roseanne Barr, Margaret Cho, and Joey Arias.

Jackie Beat has been named Best Drag Queen by New York Press and Best Live Performance by HX Magazine. She is the lead singer of the electro-rock band Dirty Sanchez and the subject of the documentary film My Name is Jackie Beat. Beat’s male alter ego Kent Fuher is a Writers Guild member who has worked on The WB sketch comedy show Hype! and the Sci-Fi Channel original series Tripping The Rift. He currently writes for Joan Rivers on E Entertainment TV’s Fashion Police.

“Expect a few surprises as the evening goes on — Jackie Beat has friends in the highest … and lowest … places you can imagine,” said Chip Duckett, the Bone-a-fit‘s organizer, in a statement.

It looks like you really can’t stop the Beat.
