Cover Boy John Selya to Sign Copies of Dance Magazine at Drama Book Shop

John Selya, one of the stars of the Twyla Tharp-Billy Joel musical Movin’ Out, will be signing copies of the February issue of Dance Magazine at the Drama Book Shop in New York City on Wednesday, February 18. The first 100 people in line will each receive a free copy of the issue, which features a photo of Selya on the cover.

The event will begin at 3pm with a brief question and answer period and will continue with the magazine signing. The cover story celebrates Selya and his career as a dancer, from his acceptance to the School of American Ballet at age 10 to his Tony Award-nominated role as Eddie in Movin’ Out.

Selya was born in New York City. At the School of American Ballet, he studied with Richard Rapp, Andrei Kramarevski, and Stanley Williams. In 1988, he joined American Ballet Theatre, where his roles ranged from Dr. Coppélius in Frederick Franklin’s Coppélia to the Head Fakir in Natalia Makarova’s La Bayadére to a sailor in Jerome Robbins’s Fancy Free. Selya has choreographed for A.B.T. as well as for the Houston Ballet, the Oregon Ballet Theatre, the School of American Ballet, A.B.T.’s Studio Company, and the Cuyahoga Youth Ballet; he also co-choreographed an evening of new pieces presented as part of the Guggenheim Museum’s “Works and Process” series.

The Drama Book Shop is located at 250 West 40th Street (between Seventh and Eighth avenues) in Manhattan.
