NBC will follow up its highly successful television broadcast of The Sound of Music Live! with Peter Pan Live!, an adaptation of the stage musical by Mark “Moose” Charlap, Carolyn Leigh, and J.M. Barrie, on December 4, 2014.

Peter Pan Live! will be produced by Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, who were at the forefront of 2013’s Sound of Music broadcast. Casting and additional information will be announced in the coming months.

Peter Pan features a book by Barrie, who wrote the stories on which the musical was based, and a score by Charlap and Leigh, with additional songs by Jule Syne, Betty Comden, and Adolph Green. The musical’s original Broadway production, directed and choreographed by Jerome Robbins, opened in 1954, and won Tony Awards for its stars, Mary Martin and Cyril Ritchard.

A television broadcast of Peter Pan is not unprecedented. 65 million viewers tuned in for a 1955 broadcast of the original Broadway production. It was broadcast live again in 1956 and 1960.
