Pianist Anthony de Mare will perform the second installment of his Liaisons: Reimagining Sondheim from the Piano, featuring all new music by composers Jason Robert Brown (The Last Five Years), Thomas Newman (Skyfall), Nico Muhly, Eve Beglarian, Mary Ellen Childs, Michael Daugherty, Peter Golub (The Heiress), Annie Gosfield, Phil Kline, John Musto, Eric Rockwell (The Musical of Musicals-The Musical), Frederic Rzweski, Rodney Sharman, Bernadette Speach, and Nils Vigeland, on March 9 at Symphony Space. The evening will also include an on-stage discussion with Stephen Sondheim, led by author of Sondheim on Music and senior music specialist at The Library of Congress Mark Eden Horowitz.
Liaisons: Reimagining Sondheim from the Piano marries de Mare's love of classical piano with his respect for revered composer Stephen Sondheim. To date, he has commissioned 36 leading contemporary composers from the classical, jazz, theater, and film worlds to write short solo piano pieces inspired by Sondheim's music. The March 9 concert will include songs from Sunday in the Park with George, Sweeney Todd, A Little Night Music, Follies, Company, and others.
