Two-time Academy Award winner Sean Penn will receive the Producers Guild of America’s Stanley Kramer Award at the annual PGA ceremony to be held on January 22, according to a report in Variety. It will mark the first time an individual has received the honor, which was established in 2002 to honor a motion picture, television program, studio, network, producer, executive or other individual entity whose work illuminates provocative social issues in an accessible and elevating fashion.

Penn received Oscars for his work in Milk and Mystic River. In addition, he has three other Academy Award nominations, for his performances in I Am Sam, Sweet and Lowdown, and Dead Man Walking.

Penn starred on Broadway in Heartland and Slab Boys.
