Judy Blazer, Shuler Hensley, Eugene Brancoveanu, and Ronit Widmann-Levy will be featured in the previously reported two-concert engagement of Michael Tilson Thomas’ The Thomashefskys: Music and Memories of a Life in the Yiddish Theatre, to be held at Avery Fisher Hall, on April 5 & 6 at 7:30pm. Patricia Birch will direct.

In conjunction with the performances, The National Yiddish Theatre – Folksbiene will host a tribute to Tilson Thomas, on Wednesday, April 6, which will include a private reception with the conductor and performer and his co-honorees David and Sylvia Steiner prior to the concert.

The Thomashefskys is a multimedia evening that celebrates Tilson Thomas’ grandparents, Bessie and Boris Thomashefsky. It follows these Eastern European immigrants who played major roles in the development of American Yiddish theater, a central part of life on Manhattan’s Lower East Side. The piece re-creates the atmosphere of the time through music, costumes, and projections of film clips, archival photos, posters, and other memorabilia.
