Baldwin, Hudson, Irons, Mirren, Murphy, Wilson, et al. Win SAG Awards

The 13th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards were presented tonight in Los Angeles.

Little Miss Sunshine won the SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture The Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series went to the cast of Grey’s Anatomy, including stage stars T.R. Knight, Sandra Oh, and Sara Ramirez. The Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series went to the cast of The Office.

Stage veteran Helen Mirren received two SAG Awards; one for Outstanding Female Actor in a Motion Picture for playing Elizabeth II in The Queen and one for Outstanding Female Actor in a Telefilm or Miniseries for the title role in HBO’s Elizabeth I. Forest Whitake was named Outstanding Male Actor in a Motion Picture for playing former Ugandan dictator Idi Amin in The Last King of Scotland; while Mirren’s Elizabeth I co-star, Tony Award winner Jeremy Irons was named Outstanding Actor in a Telefilm or Miniseries for his portrayal of the Earl of Leicester.

Jennifer Hudson received the SAG Award for Outstanding Female Actor in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture for playing Effie White in Dreamgirls, while Eddie Murphy was named Outstanding Male Actor in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture for his work as James “Thunder” Early in the same film.

The award for Outstanding Female Actor in a Drama Series was given to Chandra Wilson, who co-starred in the Broadway musical Caroline, or Change, for playing Dr. Miranda Bailey on Grey’s Anatomy, while British stage star Hugh Laurie was named Outstanding Male Actor in a Drama Series for playing the title role in House.

Alec Baldwin was named Outstanding Male Actor in a Comedy Series for his work as network executive Jack Donaghy on 30 Rock and America Ferrara was named Outstanding Female Actor in a Comedy Series for playing the title role in Ugly Betty.

Dick Van Dyke and Anne Hathaway presented Julie Andrews with the group’s Life Achievement Award. The presentation included clips from Cinderella, The Sound of Music, Mary Poppins, Victor/Victoria, and many of her other films and television appearances.
