Tony Award nominee Marion McClinton will direct Gleam, by Bonnie Lee Moss Rattner, at Baltimore’s CENTERSTAGE, January 4-February 5, 2012. The production replaces McClintion’s musical adaptation of Toni Morrison’s Jazz, which as previously reported, has been postponed for further script development.

Adapted from Zora Neale Hurston’s novel Their Eyes Were Watching God, the play follows Janie, who at 16 is faced with a marriage of convenience and a life of quiet drudgery. Instead, she embarks on a journey that brings successes and losses enough for several lifetimes.

McClinton received a Tony nomination for his direction of August Wilson’s King Hedley II, and additional Main Stem credits include Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom and Drowning Crow. He received a Drama Desk nomination for his production of Jitney.
