Ben Whishaw, seen Off-Broadway last season in The Pride, will star in Alan Ball’s HBO pilot All Signs of Death, according to Deadline.com.

The drama is based on Charlie Huston’s 2009 crime noir novel The Mystic Arts of Erasing All Signs of Death. Whishaw will play Webster Filmore Goodhue, a crime scene cleaner, who becomes entangled in a murder mystery. Ball is executive producing and directing the pilot, which was written by Huston. Filming is expected to begin in August in Los Angeles.

Ball’s plays include Five Women Wearing the Same Dress and All That I Will Ever Be. He won the Academy Award for the screenplay of American Beauty and an Emmy for the HBO series Six Feet Under. His other television works include True Blood, Cybill, and Grace Under Fire.

Whishaw’s stage credits also include the title role in Trevor Nunn’s 2004 production of Hamlet at the Old Vic. Upcoming film credits include Julie Taymor’s adaptation of The Tempest.
