Toni Collette, Dev Patel Set for New Thriller Defiant

Broadway veteran Toni Collette, along with Dev Patel, have been cast in the new thriller Defiant, according to a report on Deadline.com Bill Bennett is writing and directing the project.

The movie, based on a true story, centers on a young man (Patel) who, along with his girlfriend, is trying to escape vengeful parents who want to kill the lovers to stop them marrying. Collette will play a journalist who is covering the couple’s story and is drawn into its dangers.

Collette received a Tony Award nomination for her role in the musical The Wild Party. In addition, she has won an Emmy Award, for her work on Showtime’s The United States of Tara, and she received an Oscar nomination for The Sixth Sense. Among her other movie credits are Little Miss Sunshine, About a Boy, The Hours, and Muriel’s Wedding.
