Stage and screen star Alec Baldwin will star as psychiatrist Martin Dysart in Peter Shaffer’s Equus this summer in East Hampton, New York, according to a report in The New York Times. Tony Walton will direct the production, which will play at the John Drew Theater at Guild Hall, June 8-July 3.

The play tells the story of a deeply disturbed 17-year-old stable boy who blinds six horses, and the psychiatrist who attempts to treat him. The Times also reports that Shaffer plans to rewrite parts of his original script for this production.

Baldwin has appeared on Broadway in A Streetcar Named Desire, Loot, and Twentieth Century. He received an Academy Award nomination for The Cooler and has won two Emmy Awards for his work on NBC’s 30 Rock. He will be co-hosting (with Steve Martin) the 82nd Annual Academy Awards, which will take place on Monday, March 7 in Los Angeles and be aired live on ABC-TV.
