The Sam Mendes-helmed stage musical of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory will play London's Theatre Royal Drury Lane, not the previously announced London Palladium. The production will begin performances on May 18, according to published reports.

Based on the Roald Dahl story, the musical features a score by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman and a book by David Greig. The creative team will include Peter Darling (choreography), Nicholas Skilbeck (musical direction), Mark Thompson (scenic and costume design), Paul Pyant (lighting design), Paul Arditti (sound design), and Jon Driscoll (video and projections).

The musical follows the adventures of young lad Charlie Bucket, who wins a Golden Ticket to enter the mysterious Chocolate Factory of Willy Wonka.
