Oscar Nominee and Stage Star Joyce Redman Has Died

Academy Award nominee and legendary stage star Joyce Redman died on May 9 in Kent, England at age 96, according to published reports.

Redman worked regularly on the stage around the world, most notably in England, where she worked with the Old Vic and the National Theatre Company.

On Broadway, she appeared in eight shows, including Uncle Vanya, Anne of a Thousand Days, in which she played Anne Boleyn, and the 1987 revival of George Bernard Shaw’s Pygmalion, in which she played Mrs. Higgins opposite Peter O’Toole and Amanda Plummer.

She received Oscar nominations for her roles in Tom Jones and Othello, in which she played Emilia. Her many other film and television credits include Vanity Fair, Prudence and the Pill, Les Miserables, and Tales of the Unexpected.

She is survived by her three children.
