Works by John Banks, Thomas Betterton, John Fletcher, Philip Massinger Set for Read Not Dead Series at Shakespeare’s Globe

Shakespeare’s Globe has announced the four plays that will be presented as part of its Read Not Dead reading series, which brings plays written between 1567 and 1642 by Shakespeare’s contemporaries, as well as other related works, to the stage in script-in-hand performances.

The 2010 Read Not Dead season will begin with Thomas Betterton’s 1700 Henry IV (May 9). Over the summer, John Banks’ extension of Shakespeare’s Henry VIII, Virtue Betrayed (or Anna Bullen) (July 18), will be performed.

In the late summer, two works by John Fletcher will be offered: The Sea Voyage (August 15), written with Philip Massinger, and The Chances (September 19). Directors and casting for the readings will be announced at a later date.
