Voting is now open for the 13th annual WhatsonStage.com Awards, run and named for the United Kingdom's leading theater website. Winners of the awards are determined entirely by ticket-buyers and citizen voters, making WhatsonStage.com Award winners the true choice of theater fans across the UK.
2013 nominees Tim Minchin and Spice Girl Melanie C, both of Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber's Jesus Christ Superstar (which is nominated in the Best Musical Revival category), have announced they will return to the West End's Palace Theatre on February 17 to perform at the WhatsonStage.com Awards' starry ceremony and concert.
In preparation for the formal online vote, show-goers submitted more than 50,000 nominations across 27 different categories. Last week, the formal nominations were announced at a star-studded launch party at London's Café de Paris.
Big names up for your consideration this year include Sally Hawkins for Best Actress in a Play for Constellations, Mark Rylance for Best Actor in a Play for Twelfth Night, Stephen Fry for Best Supporting Actor in a Play for Twelfth Night, Broadway's Wicked alums Idina Menzel and Miriam Margolyes, respectively, for Best Solo Performance, Imedla Staunton for Best Actress in a Musical for Sweeney Todd, Megan McGinnis for Best Actress in a Musical for Daddy Long Legs, Ramin Karimloo for Best Takeover in a Role for Les Miz, and Trevor Nunn for Best Director for Kiss Me Kate.
Voting for the WhatsonStage.com Awards is open until January 31st. You can cast your votes here.
Last year's WhatsonStage.com Award winners included Vanessa Redgrave in Driving Miss Daisy at Wyndham's; James Corden in One Man, Two Guvnors at the National, Lyttelton & Adelphi; and the currently Broadway-bound Tim Michin in Matilda the Musical as Newcomer of the Year.
WhatsonStage.com was recently acquired by TheaterMania, which will produce the 2013 Drama Desk Awards — not decided by audience voting -- this Spring.
