Frost/Nixon took home six nominations, including Best Picture, Frank Langella for Best Actor, Ron Howard for Best Director, and David Hare for Best Adapted Screenplay. The Reader also grabbed five nominations, including ones for Best Picture, Stephen Daldry for Best Director, and Kate Winslet for Best Actress (competing against herself in Revolutionary Road), and Milk earned five nods, including Best Picture and Sean Penn for Best Actor.
In Bruges, Martin McDonagh's feature film debut, earned four nominations, including one for Best British Film, where it's competing against Mamma Mia!, which scored a total of three nominations. Doubt was also a triple nominee, with acting nods going to Meryl Streep, Philip Seymour Hoffman, and Amy Adams.
Stage star Rebecca Hall, currently appearing at BAM in The Cherry Orchard, is one of five nominees for The Orange Rising Star Award, which is voted on by the public. She appeared this year in both Woody Allen's Vicky Cristina Barcelona and Frost/Nixon, in which she played Caroline Cushing, David Frost's girlfriend.
