In the piece, Dutton chronicles how he went from being a dropout and felon to using the theater as a way to escape his past.
On Broadway, Dutton has been seen in both the original production and revival of Ma Rainey's Black Bottom as well as in The Piano Lesson. Dutton may be best known for his work starring on television's Roc, a series for which he also served as executive producer. He directed the HBO miniseries The Corner and has co-starred in such recent films as The Express and Fame.
