The winners of the Connecticut Critics Circle Awards have been announced, according to the The Hartford Courant. Hartford Stage’s production of Horton Foote’s Dividing the Estate won for outstanding production of a play, as well as Michael Wilson’s direction. Outstanding production of a musical went to Goodspeed Opera House’s Big River, which also won for Russell Joel Brown’s performance and Michael Schweikardt’s set design. Director Rob Ruggiero tied with Semina De Laurentis’ direction for The Producers, with Ruggiero also winning the Tom Killan Award, which goes to individuals who have made extraordinary contributions to Connecticut’s Equity professional theater.
Additional acting winners included Colman Domingo (Coming Home), Kristen Martin (42nd Street), and Andrea Maulella (Tryst). Awards were also given out to Rick Conant for his choreography in 42nd Street, Robert Wiertzel for his lighting in Of Mice and Men, Ilona Somogyi won for her costumes in Passion Play, and David Levy for his sound design in Around the World in 80 Days.
Hartford’s TheaterWorks production of No Child…, took home the ensemble award, with cast member Donnetta Lavinia Grays also winning for outstanding debut. Olivia Scott also received an award for her debut performance in To Kill a Mockingbird. Marilyn: Forever Blonde won for outstanding road show, while Elizabeth Helitzer and Mark Parenti won a special achievement award for Around the World in 80 Days.
