Ben Carlson to Star in CST’s Macbeth

Ben Carlson will play the title role in Chicago Shakespeare Theatre’s production of Macbeth, to play January 2-March 8. CST’s artistic director Barbara Gaines will helm the production.

In this story infused with superstition, ghosts and madness, Macbeth murders his king and all who stand in the way of his ambition.

The cast will also include Karen Aldridge as Lady Macbeth, Rengin Altay as Lady Macduff, Phillip James Brannon as Malcolm, Kate Buddeke as Witch, Evan Buliung as Macduff, Patrick Clear as Old Man/Doctor, Danforth Comins as Banquo, Jeff Cummings as Angus, William Dick as Lenox, Matthew Levy as Macduff’s son, David Lively as Duncan, Carolyn Klein as Gentlewoman, Mike Nussbaum as Witch/Porter, and EB Smith as Captain/Seyton.

Carlson received a Jeff Award for his performance in CST’s 2006 production of Hamlet, and is a featured classical actor at the Shaw and Stratford Shakespeare Festivals of Canada.

As previously announced, Chicago Shakespeare will also be presenting The Investigation by Peter Weiss, part of Chicago Shakespeare’s World’s Stage Series, January 21-31. In addition, it will stage an all-ages production of Short Shakespeare! A Midsummer Night’s Dream on CST’s Courtyard Theater stage on Saturday mornings, January 24-March 7.
