Gubbins' play centers on a young woman in her junior year of high school in suburban LaGrange, Illinois, who discovers that she has unshakable kinship to John Singer, the central character in The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter, and finds that she identifies even more with Singer and McCullers' work after she is a victim of a gay-bashing incident.
Joanie Schultz has directed the production, which features Zoe Levin (Emma), Ian Daniel McLaren (Mickey), Lily Mojekwu (Ms. Delaney), Fiona Robert (Jo), and Bradley Grant Smith (Reed).
