Gold Medal-Winning US Men's Olympic Curling Team Visits Play That Goes Wrong

The champs of Team USA took part in the show and then hung out with the cast afterward.

The gold medal-winning members of the US Men's Olympic Curling Team took in (and took part in) Broadway's The Play That Goes Wrong at the Lyceum Theatre on Friday, March 2.

Greeted with cheers of "USA!" as they took their seats, the team, made up of John Shuster (skip), Tyler George (vice skip), Matt Hamilton (second), John Landsteiner (lead), Joe Polo (alternate), had center aisle seats, allowing for the cast to call upon George and Hamilton to join them onstage for a special moment at the top of the show.

Following the performance, the team members headed backstage to meet the company and pose for photos with their gold medals.

The Play That Goes Wrong started performances March 9, 2017, and opened on April 2. Directed by Mark Bell and cowritten by Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer, and Henry Shields of the troupe Mischief Theatre, The Play That Goes Wrong introduces the Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society, a company attempting to put on a 1920s murder mystery. As everything that can go wrong does, the accident-prone thespians battle on against all the odds to get to their final curtain call. The production won a 2017 Tony Award for Best Scenic Design of a Play.

The cast of The Play That Goes Wrong includes Ashley Bryant as Annie, Clifton Duncan as Robert, Mark Evans as Chris, Alex Mandell as Max, Harrison Unger as Dennis, Akron Watson as Trevor, with Jonathan Fielding as Jonathan and Amelia McClain as Sandra. They are joined by Preston Truman Boyd, Ned Noyes, Ashley Reyes, and Katie Sexton.

The Tony-winning set is designed by Nigel Hook. The production has lighting design by Ric Mountjoy, sound design by Andy Johnson, and costume design by Roberto Surace.
