Deaf West's Spring Awakening on Broadway to Be Taped for Lincoln Center Archives

The production is performed simultaneously in American Sign Language and spoken English by a cast of 28.

Deaf West Theatre’s Broadway production of Spring Awakening, currently running at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre, has annoucned that it will be taped by York Public Library’s Theatre on Film and Tape archive at Lincoln Center on December 8 at 7pm. The production, which is performed simultaneously in American Sign Language and spoken English, began previews on September 8 and opened on September 27. The limited engagement must end on January 24.

Michael Arden's production of Duncan Sheik and Steven Sater's Tony-winning musical originated in 2014 in Los Angeles as a production of Deaf West Theatre. Based on the 1891 Frank Wedekind play and set against the backdrop of a repressive and provincial late-19th-century Germany, Spring Awakening tells the timeless story of teenage self-discovery and budding sexuality as seen through the eyes of three teenagers.

The complete cast of Spring Awakening includes Robert Ariza, Miles Barbee, Katie Boeck, Alex Boniello, Joshua Castille, Lizzy Cuesta, Daniel N. Durant, Treshelle Edmond, Sandra Mae Frank, Kathryn Gallagher, Sean Grandillo, Elizabeth Greene, Russell Harvard, Amelia Hensley, Van Hughes, Lauren Luiz, Emmy and Golden Globe Award winner Camryn Manheim, Daniel Marmion, Academy and Golden Globe Award winner and Emmy Award nominee Marlee Matlin, Austin P. McKenzie, Andy Mientus, Patrick Page, Ren, Krysta Rodriguez, Daniel David Stewart, Ali Stroker, Alexandra Winter, and Alex Wyse.
