American Repertory Theatre has announced its 2011-2012 season for the Loeb Drama Center, which, as previously announced, will open with The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess, running August 17 – October 2. Diane Paulus will direct the production that will star Norm Lewis and Audra McDonald in the title roles.

The theater’s schedule also includes Rick Burkhardt, Alec Duffy and Dave Malloy’s Obie Award-winning Three Pianos. Directed by Rachel Chavkin, the show is inspired by and a theatrical meditation on Franz Schubert’s Winterreise, and will run December 7 – January 8. A.R.T. also plans to produce Alexandra Wood’s adaptation of Jung Chang’s chronicle of a family during a tumultuous 100 year period in China, Wild Swans (February 11 – March 11).

The company’s season in the Loeb will conclude with Futurity: A Musical by The Lisps (March 16 – April 15). Sarah Benson will direct this latter show, which has music and lyrics by César Alvarez with The Lisps and a book by Molly Rice and Alvarez, and which melds science fiction and historical narrative in its portrait of two 19th century characters who envision a Utopian future for themselves and the world.

Additional special events and Oberon offerings will be announced at a later date.
