Stoneham Theatre Announces 2009-2010 Season

Stoneham Theatre, in Stoneham, Massachusetts, has announced selections for its tenth anniversary season, which will kick off with the New England premiere of Studs Terkel’s The Good War: A Musical Collage of World War II (September 10-October 4), adapted from Studs Terkel’s stories by David H. Bell and Craig Carnelia.

Next will be The Sparrow (October 22-November 8), conceived and directed by Nathan Allen, and written by Allen, Chris Mathews and Jake Minton. It concerns an orphaned teenager with supernatural powers. Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, adapted by Troy Siebels, will follow, November 27-December 27.

Stoneham will present the U.S. premiere of Michael Melski’s Hockey Mom, Hockey Dad (January 14-31), about two lonely, single parents who meet while watching their kids play Pee Wee hockey. The Dinosaur Musical, by brothers Robert and Willie Reale, will play March 4-21, offering a family friendly story about a 14-year old Tyrannosaurus and his unlikely friendship with a 14-year old Parasaurolophus.

Daniel MacIvor’s Cul-de-sac will make its New England premiere, March 11-21, telling the story of a quiet dead-end street torn apart by the murder of one of its residents. The classic Lerner and Loewe musical My Fair Lady will follow April 8-May 2. The season will conclude with Patrick Hamilton’s Gaslight (May 27-June 13), a chamber mystery that examines a late Victorian London marriage.
